Award School: Tips out for the mums

This AWARD School brief response aimed to start a social movement. It’s intention was to put an end to the Motherhood penalty.

INSIGHT: When wages aren’t distributed fairly in the hospo industry - we’re encouraged to tip. As Australians we’re staunch opponents of tipping. We find it uncomfortable, frustrating. It often leaves us resenting the business and questioning why the staff aren’t paid properly by their employer to begin with.

SOLUTION: To raise awareness of the Motherhood penalty pay disparity, we will bring the uncomfortable burden of tipping to our office jobs. Rather than a tip jar, women around Australia will display elephant money banks on their desks. It won’t be long before the elephant in the room quickly becomes a talking point.
